Can red bell peppers be grown in Mississippi?
Colored bell peppers of all sorts can be grown in Mississippi. The variety choice and the stage of ripeness determine the color of the fruit. Most bell peppers will turn red if they are allowed to ripen on the plant. Others will turn yellow or orange. Blue, purple, and other colors may be only skin deep. The problem with growing colored peppers is the additional time it takes for the pepper to ripen in the field. In general, it is an additional 10 to 14 days for diseases, insects, and hailstorms to damage the crop after it would have been harvested for a green bell.
