Sunny Side-Garden

Today Southern Gardening is with our friend Colleen and her beautiful historic home in Natchez. I want to share a really neat space she has created in the landscape. Walking up you can’t help to notice the space is bordered by gorgeous bluestone that creates symmetry and an elegant well define border to the area. On both sides planting of Flutterby butterfly bushes are still attracting late season butterflies. Behind the butterfly bushes are a single row of Shishi Gashira camellia which reinforces the formality of the space. The defined lawn area is perfect for events and entertaining. I really love the Four Seasons garden anchored by four goddesses representing the four seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. In ancient mythology they presided over the heavenly constellations in which the year was measured. Around each goddess are replicated planting of Mississippi Medallion winner pink and white Drift compact roses and agapanthus. I love the large urn in the center of the bluestone patio with the tropical hibiscus. Golden chartreuse sweet potato is just spilling out and about. The bright blue flowers of the plumbago play off of the bluestone. The wrought iron benches and table add to the historic feel and I really like the sedum planter.
