MSU, WTVA to educate public about TV transfer
MISSISSIPPI STATE – Mississippi State University’s Extension Service and WTVA-TV have joined together to educate the public about the much-anticipated digital television, or DTV, transfer.
MSU and WTVA-TV will present “Television Going Digital” through a free teleconference at 10 a.m. May 14 at all MSU Extension offices within the WTVA viewing area. WTVA’s director of engineering Wendell Robinson and evening news anchor Terry Smith will host the conference and provide attendees with information on how to prepare for the DTV transfer.
The video conference will give basic information on purchasing and installing converter boxes so those without cable or a satellite can still view television programming. The interactive teleconference also will provide the opportunity for the public to ask questions about the upcoming transfer.
“Those without cable or satellite television will lose their viewing capabilities on June 12,” said Shelaine Wise, Prentiss County Extension director. “Everyone, especially those in rural areas, should continue to have access to important weather information such as tornadoes and other major storms. We are encouraging everyone affected by the transfer to attend this conference and have their questions answered.”
