POPLARVILLE – The Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station will host a field day Nov. 9 to provide information to help beef producers improve their business opportunities.

The White Sand Beef Cattle Field Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the White Sand Experiment Station. There is no cost to attend, and anyone involved with the beef cattle industry is invited to attend. Lunch will be provided.

Lisa Kreise-Anderson from Auburn University will teach participants how to interpret bull test data and what constitutes a good test. Trent Smith from Mississippi State University’s Department of Animal and Dairy Science discuss current MSU research in beef cattle genetics.

Vinicius Moreira will give updates from the Louisiana Ag Center in Franklinton, and Rocky Lemus, Extension forage specialist, will talk about forage work conducted at White Sand. Representatives of Mississippi Farm Bureau and the Mississippi Cattlemen’s Association will discuss the state of the beef industry nationwide and in Mississippi.

A tour of the White Sand facilities will be offered after lunch. Larry Fitzgerald will discuss the breeding and selection plan used at the station, and Daniel Rivera will report on on-going trials.
