Conservation class begins April 26
BILOXI -- An eight-week Mississippi Master Naturalist course will educate citizens about local natural resources and promote environmental stewardship.
Offered by the Mississippi State University Extension Service, the class will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. every Thursday from April 26 to June 14. Classes take place at the MSU Coastal Research and Extension Center in Biloxi. Field trips are also planned.
Topics include ecology, soils, ecosystems, weather and climate, plant science, water quality, entomology, forest management, native plants, forest ecology, ornithology, archeology, geology, fisheries and wildlife management.
To earn Master Naturalist certification, participants must complete 40 hours of classroom and field instruction, eight hours of approved advanced training, and 40 hours of approved volunteer service.
Master Naturalist volunteers participate in community service projects such as educational booths at various events and tree giveaways.
The course fee of $100 includes all needed course materials. Seating is limited, and pre-registration is required. Registration and fees must be received by April 16.
