MISSISSIPPI STATE – The highest bidders will take away top-quality horses and beef cattle from the Mississippi State University research herds after a public auction on Nov. 15.

MSU and the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station will host the 30th annual Animal Production Sale at the Mississippi Horse Park, which is located on Poorhouse Road south of Starkville. Interactive video bidding sites will be at the Forrest County Extension office in Hattiesburg and the Central Mississippi Research and Extension Center in Raymond. MAFES personnel will facilitate bidding at each site.

A free beef cattle short course on improving calf value will be offered from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon, and the cattle sale will begin at 1 p.m.

The 40 cattle scheduled for auction include Angus and Charolais purebred bulls and commercial-bred heifers. The horse sale will follow with 22 horses, including ponies, American Quarter horse and Thoroughbred weanlings and a few older horses.

Proceeds from the sale support livestock research programs in Mississippi. The sale is conducted by Beef Cattle Production class students, who take an active role in sale preparation and sale day events.
