Teachers win grant-funded training opportunity at MSU
GULFPORT, Miss. -- Teachers from four Mississippi schools will go back to college this summer through a partnership with the Mississippi State University Extension Center for Technology Outreach.
The Mississippi Department of Education selected the Gulfport School District and Picayune School District for participation in the In-Depth Mathematical Practices and Content Teacher Training (IMPACT2) program during the 2016-2017 school year.
Teachers from West Elementary School, Gaston Point Elementary School, Gulfport Middle School and Nicholson Elementary School in Picayune and will begin the training program in June.
IMPACT2 seeks to promote teachers’ growth as leaders within their schools and provide them with in-depth content knowledge in mathematics, resulting in an increase in student achievement. Science, technology, engineering and math faculty from MSU and math specialists from around the U.S. serve as program instructors during the intensive, hands-on experience.
A Math-Science Partnership Grant from the U.S. Department of Education funds the program.
