Mississippi Youth Preparedness Initiative (MyPI)

MyPI is a comprehensive youth preparedness program designed for teens that includes Teen CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), an Add-On catalog that features technology tracks, career tracks, CPR/AED certification, and a leadership and community service project.

Target Audience(s):

Youth ages 13 to 19 and their families

Objectives:

Participants will:

  • Engage and participate in personal, family, and community mitigation and preparation for disasters and instill personal responsibility and ownership in these functions,
  • Build and transfer skills needed to respond in the aftermath of a disaster when emergency services are not immediately available,
  • Engage in the prevention, preparation, and recovery functions of emergency management through a comprehensive leadership and community service project,
  • Learn and communicate new resources, strategies, and technological advancements that assist in the emergency management processes, and
  • Explore and learn new insights into career tracks within Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Public Safety, Fire Safety, and other Emergency Management-related fields.
