Recycled Container Planting

Recycling objects and turning them into container planters can be fun and will add visual interest to your landscape. I love how this old tree stump is utilized as a planter pedestal. The size provides the perfect surface of which this beautiful, recycled wheelbarrow planter can sit. The wheelbarrow was painted a traditional dark green color. Because of the height of the planter, trailing plants were planted. The Creeping Jenny produces small, rounded leaves with wavy edges sitting oppositely along thin, trailing stems. The orbicular leaves are smooth and often shiny โ€“ resembling a string of small coins. The almost-evergreen foliage ranges in color from lime green in part to full sun and a soft chartreuse in shade. As it continues to grow, it will cascade over the sides of the wheelbarrow and flow down the tree stump. In the back of the planter, Rio purslanes add a pop of color with their yellow, magenta, orange, and scarlet red blooms. They will grow up to eight inches tall and spread to 18 inches. The stems are purplish-green, and the leaves are bright green. A tropical hibiscus is nestled in the center of the planter. The dark green foliage with bright yellow blooms adds height and beauty to the planter combination. As you can see, an old, recycled wheelbarrow can make a beautiful container planting. You should add one to your landscape. I am Eddie Smith, and I will see you next time on Southern Gardening.
