End of Growing Season

As the growing season ends, the next decision is when to spray a defoliant or harvest aid. The UAV can assist in assessing the overall nature of the crop by checking the maturity of the fruit.

Flying over the field, you can pick a spot and fly down to just above the crop and allow the prop wash to spread the canopy. This allows you to look down at the plant and fully assess the fruit.  For example, you can see the number of bolls that are open on the cotton plant.  The prop wash is especially useful in soybeans and you can see the color, and fullness of the bean pods.
