Advanced BMT FAQs

Advanced Board Management Training Program

  • What is the Advanced Board Management Training Program?

The Advanced Board Management Training Program was developed following the passage of new state law on June 1, 2020. For years, board members of public water systems did not receive additional training after completing their original training requirements. However, legislation, rules, and technology change at rapid rates, and it was determined that board members needed additional training.

  • Who is required to attend the Advanced Board Management Training Program?

At least two board members from each public water system must attend Advanced Board Management Training once every 4 years.

  • Can I participate in the program even if I am not required to?

Yes. If you represent a public water system serving a population greater than 10,000 you may still attend. If you have already met the training requirements, you may also attend the training again or view the videos found onextension.msstate.edu/water to refresh and sharpen your skills.

  • What will I learn by attending the program?

Board members will be exposed to several topics over a two-session period. These topics include work-place fraud, asset management, the Non-Profit Act, the revised Lead and Copper Rule and the revised Total Coliform Rule.

  • How much is the registration fee?

The registration fee is $25.00 for the class and $25.00 for the manual.

  • Who teaches the training sessions?

Mississippi Rural Water Association teaches the classes in coordination with Mississippi State University Extension Services.

  • Where are the training sessions held and how long do they last?

All advanced Board training will be held by virtually. The link for registration can be found at msrwa.org/board-member-training/. Advanced training is split into 2 sessions across each month, i.e., Session 1 and Session 2. Both sessions must be attended to receive credit. These sessions are held once a month and are offered two times a day on the scheduled date. 8:00 am – 10:00 am and then again at 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. The total class time is 4 hours needed for compliance.

  • How do I know if a training session is being held in my area?

MsRWA will send out notices to all systems notifying them of upcoming training dates.
